Breaking News: A Call to Action for Pratt & Whitney Workers in Columbus, Georgia
At the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), we’re committed to standing with workers at Pratt & Whitney across the nation. Our union is already proud to represent many sites, and now we’re focused on helping workers in Columbus, Georgia, achieve the same protections and benefits that come with a union contract.
The Reality in Columbus, Georgia
Workers in Columbus face significant challenges, including:
• Wages: A lack of transparency about pay scales and the timing of wage increases.
• Safety: Ongoing concerns that must be addressed to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
Without a union contract, these critical issues are left to the discretion of management. Promises made today can be taken away tomorrow without accountability.
A Union Contract Makes All the Difference
Union contracts put everything in black-and-white, ensuring workers’ rights and benefits are protected. Management can no longer make arbitrary decisions about your pay, safety, or working conditions. With a contract, your rights are guaranteed and legally binding.
Here’s what unionized Pratt & Whitney workers have achieved at other sites:
• Florida Site (Ratified 2024 Contract):
• 4% wage increase in 2024, 3.5% in 2025, and 3% in 2026.
• $1,500 ratification bonus.
• Increased pension benefits.
• Michigan Site (Recent Contract):
• Equity increase of $0.60 to all wages.
• 4%, 3.5%, and 3% annual wage increases for the next three years.
• $2 increase to 401(k) contributions.
• Two additional paid holidays.
• $2.50 shift premium and pay for unused time.

– With hundreds of workers from IAM Local 700 and Local 1746 gathered in a powerful display of solidarity outside Pratt & Whitney, they are rallying together to protect and strengthen their contract. With negotiations set to begin in a few months, the energy and determination of these skilled workers signal a clear message: they are united, focused, and ready to fight for the contract they deserve.
Why Management Fears Unions
Management and corporate higher-ups often oppose unions because they lose their unchecked power over workers. Without a union, they can make decisions that benefit the company at your expense. A union levels the playing field, giving workers a collective voice and the power to negotiate fair terms.

The annual wages increases for union workers at pratt and whitney are the same for non union workers. The union needs to perform better. We all witnessed how, at first, the union was satisfied with the initial boeing contract. They would have gladly accepted the deal. Thankfully members demanded more. We ll see how the union performs at pratt and whitney in CT this spring.
